Day 2 - Age Group Nationals - Junior Reporter

Day 2 Prelims – Age Group Nationals – Junior Reporter

As I write this, I am sitting in my hotel room , it’s 10:30 and the session has been running for 1.5 hours.  There’s an hour of 100 Fr and 3 hours of 400 IM…. Looong sessions.  They really tire you out if you don’t take care of yourself.

So- a summary of this morning session!  (yes I actually swam, 400 IM finally ended)

Finalists:

            Rhys J 400 IM,  7th

            Jon B 400 IM,   3rd

            Chris T 50 Bk,   5th

            Mark G  100 Fr,  7th

A much better performance by everyone.  Steven H came in 9th in the 100 Fr, just a little short of a 2nd swim, but he’s an alternate.

Now it’s about resting and getting ready for tonight!

Day 2 Finals – Age Group Nationals – Junior Reporter

A bitter sweet evening for myself, but everyone swam considerably well.  Rhy J finished 7th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:54 a 4 second drop from the morning.  Mark G touched the wall in 55.06 in his 100 Fr, put him 7th, and ChrisT finished 6th in the 50 Bk in a time of 28.6.  All the swims were personal bests for each, a great performance for everyone.

Going into the 400 IM ranked third.  I was extremely nervous.  This was by far the biggest race of my life.  The whistle blew beckoning us to get upon the blocks.  “take your marks”.  The gun went, and I dove as far a I could…

This race hurt more than ever, at the 350m mark, I got a little lazy and just grazed the wall.  I thrashed to the finish, and just got out touched for third.  I touched in a 4:43.0, a 12 second drop from the beginning of the meet.

Until tomorrow,

-Jonathan
