Summer Games - Junior Report

Day 1

After a very long - 9 hour bus ride, we finally got to where we were destined to be, Peace River.  The bus took us to our schools where we would be sleeping for the next 3 days.  We settled in and got our "Zone 3" jackets and red team shirts. Once we had finished with all our stuff, we headed for dinner across from the school where all the kids in the summer games ate together.

After dinner, we went across the field to where all the buses for the Opening Ceremonies were waiting for us. There were so many things happening at once! There was singing, cheering, laughing and dancing. We all loved it. Then we went back to our schools for bed.  Tomorrow is our first race day!

Day 2

Today has been very busy.  We had breakfast at 6:30 a.m. and a team practice in the morning.  None of us woke up until we dove into the freezing pool! Practice wasn't hard, but it was cold.  Then we went souvenir shopping. Then it was time to eat lunch and race!

Many Zone 3 kids won their heats and got their best times this afternoon.  Finals are tomorrow morning.
Once it was done, it was time for a late supper, time outside and bed!  We were all exhausted.

Day 3

Today we have finals in the morning and our second round of preliminaries in the afternoon.  It's going to be a long day. Competition has been tough.  Lot's of A Swimmer's here at the meet. Tough to make finals!

Our NCSA swimmers are divided between Zone 2 and Zone 3.  Devon Chernow has already won a gold in 200 Back and Andrea Gibson has won a silver in 200 Fly.

More best times in the afternoon  preliminaries, along with some tough swims which led to DQ's for some of our swimmers.

Now there's a dance at the end of the day and of course dinner. Time for bed, we are tired!

Day 4

Last day of competition, we are so tired. Most people just want to get home now.  But we still have finals and relays. But all in all, we are still pushing to do our best.  At the end of the meet, Zone 3 won the most medals and points.  So each of us got a banner that said "2010 Alberta Summer Games Swimming Champions."  We were all super excited when we got them.

Several medals were won amongst the NCSA swimmer's in both Zone 2 and 3 in individual events and relays.  Plus, Stephanie Churcher won a gold in her 400 IM. Along with a few more medals won by Devon , Robyn and Andrea in Zone 2.

And now there is the long bus ride home.  Lot's of people were talking about the medals won and there was all the clinking of the medals aroung our necks! It was a fun swim meet. And I think if there wasn't an age policy we would all do it again in 2012 in Lethbridge.
