Day 5- Prelims – Age Group Nationals – Junior Reporter

So, today began with 200 IM kicking off the days long program.  Rhys J swam a 2:18 low, seeding him in 2nd place for the finals. In the next heat, I swam a 2:16 high, putting me third for the night session. Steven Hibberd snuck into the 50 fly in 8th place, joining a field of high class sprinters. And ending the day was the 400 free with two finalists, myself and Mark Gradsal ranked 7th and 8th, separated by a 0.01 of a second.

BRSA finished the last day’s prelims strong, qualifying our most finals of the meet in one day.

Day 5 - Finals

The end of the meet was so close, yet so far. With 600m standing between me and home, I was going to make sure that they were a good 600m.

The evening was kicked off by Rhys in the 200 IM, placing 3rd in a time of 2:16:78. Two heats later, I was up.  My placing dropped to 7th in the end, but I best timed with a 2:14:1, so I was quite content.

Steven Hibberd, however, moved from a 8th to a 6th in 50 fly by going a 26.0.

The final event of the long 5 day adventure rolled around 400 free. Mark and I were in the outside lanes, where none of the leaders would be able to see us. In the end, I finished in a 4:16, 4th place, and Mark finished in a 4:27, 8th place.

Overall our meet was very good. Our team performances were better than ever! Maybe you could be the one writing the next time.

Until next year,

Jon Brown
